Advice from Cher Horowitz from the classic film Clueless: "You should read one non-school book a week." This advice applies not only to high school girls, but also to lesbians, queers, gay ladies. The LA Gay Lady Book Club is for women who want to read one cool book a month, and we'll be taking suggestions on what to read from the club's members. The books we read may or may not be lesbian/queer themed, but the Ladies who attend probably will be ;) (gay/lesbian/bi/queer, trans family welcome) Re …
Root Simple is about back to basics, DIY living, encompassing homegrown vegetables, chickens, herbs, hooch, bicycles, cultural alchemy, and common sense. We're always learning, figuring stuff out, taking advantage of the enormous smarts of our friends and our on-line community, and trying to give some of that back in turn. Root Simple is a gathering place for everyone. We'll post our speaking engagements, book signings classes and other happenings of interest to the readers of our blog.
You’ve experienced the page turner. The book that’s so compelling it forces you to silence calls, stay up later than your early morning permits, and respond in a brusk and irritated tone to any and all commitments calling you away from the story. A story that’s so good, it makes you want to do something about it. Who’s up for a book club that’s one part reading, one part discussion, and one part action? Let’s read Bukowski one month and hold our discussion in the central library that Bukowski fr …
Formally, this meetup group was known as Tarot 101. I began the group in search of people who were inclined to learning tarot and open to other mystical topics. After a year of meeting some wonderful human beings, we've come to the realization that the tarot has become a great vehicle for us to begin talking about our personal interests. We have been blessed to have a mixed group of people who are developing many gifts, including tarot reading. We are ready to expand our group to other …

Putting forth our intentions, visualizing our positive outcomes and then engaging with the spontaneous gifts that emerge into our life paths. This group will never charge a fee as we are learning from each other and sharing wh …

If you're new to comics or a lifelong fan, you'll enjoy our monthly meetings to discuss the great and near great of graphic novels. Comics for adults are a burgeoning art form that any literate person should familiarize themselves with. Each month, a different club member picks a selection that we'll all read and discuss at our monthly meetings. We've been meeting for about two years now, and we've already discussed works written and drawn by Dan Clowes, Chris Ware, Neil Gaiman, Marjane Satrapi, …
… We ask for a donation of $5 to be made for our 3 hour meetings but I guarantee that you will learn amazing information that you will not find elsewhere for the time being, until you all become expert face readers yourself! "See" you soon. With love, Taruni
Who says book clubs have to be held at boring old Starbucks? If you'd like to make a commitment to reading more AND you've been dying to try out some of the fabulous bars, restaurants and cute little coffee shops and tea rooms LA has to offer, this is the book club for you! I'm planning on alternating between American classics one month, to modern literature the next to keep a good balance. This book club IS a democracy though, so all suggestions are welcome and will be voted upon!
